Secondary School Bridge League (SSBL)

In 1970s, since there were only 2 universities in Hong Kong, namely the University of Hong Kong (HKU) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), they would compete with each other every year which started the development of the Inter-University Bridge Competition.

In mid 1980, the Hong Kong Polytechnic and the newly formed City Polytechnic started their Inter-Polytechnic Bridge Competition which further enhanced the Bridge Competitions at Post-secondary level.

In 1985, the San Miguel Cup Inter College Bridge Tournament remarked the official start of the Inter-Post-Secondary School Bridge Competitions (???). The Hong Kong Lingnan College was the first winner.

After the Inter Post-secondary Bridge Tournament 1995, Mr. Ronald Hui started to form an organization bringing all post-secondary institutes together in coordinate all relevant bridge competitions. The Hong Kong Post-secondary Union of Bridge (HKPUB) ???? was formed officially in 1996. There were 24 teams from 7 post-secondary institutes participating in that year and the winner was the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).

The HKPUB had organized different events since its development. Apart from Inter-Post-Secondary Bridge Championship, they organized a Swiss Team event, the Inter-University League and some recreational activities.

Starting from late 1990s, some universities would organize events among themselves such as Convergence Cup ??? (starting from 1996 and competing by HKU, CUHK and HKUST), the East-Asia University Bridge Invitational Championship (starting from 1997 and competing by HKUST, Taiwan National University and National University of Singapore) and so on.

In 2013, HKPUB was renamed as Hong Kong Post-secondary Bridge League (HKPBL), and the Inter College Bridge Championship has been renamed as Edmund Tse Cup with sponsorship from Mr. Edmund TSE, a continuous supporter for student bridge events.
